Mermaid Shootout | Rives Junction, MI
Earlier this month, I was extremely proud to host my first ever shootout. I have hosted little mini sessions with other photographers, but it was a wonderful experience to put together an entire styled shoot for a group of local photographers.
I have an obsession with mermaids, it stems to when I was younger watching The Little Mermaid. I loved everything about Ariel and the ocean, and when I lived in a city right along the Atlantic, I was at home. That feeling of home never dimmed even when I moved 900 miles away to Michigan.
Which is why I was so excited to host this event and put my heart and soul into every aspect I could think for it. I spent 5 months planning, hundreds of dollars in custom designing handmade outfits and props, and a little bit of blood from pricking my finger a couple of times while making everything. In the end, it was beautiful and I was so happy with how it turned out.
The day was rainy, but our location was perfect to where the rain didn't even hit us until it started completely down pouring, and even then it was just a light drizzle. I got to hang out with some of my favorite photographer friends, finally met some that I have been internet friends with for years, and got to meet some new faces.
My favorite part of this whole concept was to see how each photographer took the subject matter given to them and transformed it into something beautiful. I told everyone attending ahead of time that I had a curve ball waiting for them at the shootout to test their creative processes, and it was even a test for mine.
My model, Ane aka Hodder, had these beautiful butterfly wings that she was dying to use.. with the mermaid tail! I told her of course and it would be a great surprise to see how everyone captured this made up magnificent creature that we formed. It was something I have never done before, so I was thrilled to be able to try something new, and it turned out beautiful.
I want to thank all of the photographers that attended and helped support me in this creation. Each is listed below with an image of theirs from the shootout.

This is the reason I love shoot outs so much! I love seeing how different everyone approaches the subject matter given to them. Like all art forms, photography is completely in the eye of the artist. I love everyone's work! <3
